Table Mountain’s little sister, Lion’s Head is two thirds the height, but offers spectacular 360-degree views of the city, ocean and mountains. The best views for effort hike, it’s not to be underestimated. Often touted as an “easy” hike, Lion’s Head is still a B-grade scramble and gets quite steep in the last 20-30 minutes of the climb. A head for heights may be required.

Depending on the time of year, patience may also be required, as this is a very popular trail with both tourists and locals, and the trail isn’t very wide in places. Sunset and sunrise are the best times to go. Although going at full moon can be very beautiful, this is an incredibly busy time with often hundreds of others on the small summit, especially in the summer months. This can make it an unpleasant experience – just something to bear in mind.

It is a there and back again trail.
